After Arjuna had won Draupadi in Swayamvara, the five Pandavas accompanied Draupadi to the place where they were living with their mother Kunti.
Arjun called out from the door and said to his mother – “Mother! Today we have brought a wonderful alms for you.
On that Kunti said from inside – “Sons! You people share and enjoy it among yourselves. Later on knowing that Bhiksha was in the form of a bride, Kunti felt very remorseful, but to prove her mother’s words true, Draupadi accepted the five Pandavas as husbands.
After some time after the Pandavas reached their abode with Draupadi, Krishna also followed them there. Krishna received blessings by touching the feet of his aunt Kunti and was embraced by all the Pandavas.
After completing the formalities, Yudhishthira asked Krishna – “O Dwarkadhish! How did you recognize us in this unknown place of ours? Krishna replied – “How can I not recognize you people after seeing the bravery of Bhima and Arjuna.” After meeting everyone, Krishna went to his city Dwarka from there.
At the time of Draupadi’s Swayamvara, Duryodhana as well as Drupada, Dhrishtadyumna and many other people suspected that they were Brahmin Pandavas.
To test him, Drupada sent Dhrishtadyumna and called him to his palace. In the palace, Drupada and Dhrishtadyumna first showed the treasury, but the Pandavas did not show any interest in the jewels and rubies kept there.
But when they went to the armoury, they all showed great interest in the weapons kept there and kept the weapons of their choice with them. Drupada was convinced by his actions that he was a warrior in the form of a Brahmin.
Drupada asked Yudhishthira – “O Arya! Seeing your prowess, I am convinced that you are not Brahmins. Please introduce yourself properly.
After listening to his words, Yudhishthira said – “O king! Your statement is literally true. We are Pandavas, sons of Pandu. I am Yudhishthira and these are my brothers Bhima, Arjuna, Nakula and Sahadeva. Our mother Kunti is in your palace with your daughter Draupadi.
Drupad was very happy after listening to Yudhishthir and said- “Today God has listened to me. I wanted my daughter to be married to Arjuna, the mighty son of Pandu. I arrange for Arjuna and Draupadi’s formal marriage today itself. On this Yudhishthir said- “Rajan! Draupadi’s marriage has to happen with all five of us brothers. Drupad was surprised to hear this and said – “How is this possible? A man may have many wives, but a woman should have five husbands, such a thing has never been seen or heard.
Yudhishthir said – “Rajan! Neither do I ever make false speeches nor do any work against religion or scriptures. Our mother has ordered all of us brothers to enjoy Draupadi and I can never disobey mother’s orders.
At the same time, Vedvyas came there and told Drupada about getting five mighty husbands from Lord Shankar, being pleased with Draupadi’s penance in his previous birth. After listening to the words of Ved Vyasa, Drupada’s doubt ended and he performed the water eclipse ceremony of his daughter Draupadi with great fanfare along with the five Pandavas.
The special thing happened in this marriage that Devarshi Narad himself came and blessed Draupadi to become a virgin every day. The news of the Pandavas being alive and Draupadi getting married quickly spread everywhere. On receiving this news in Hastinapur, the sorrow of Duryodhana and his associates knew no bounds.
